General Information

The HuSoCom Department of FEU - East Asia College proposes a set of knowledge areas, perspectives, competencies, and values considered to be central to the overall development of students. In addition, the values integration and the multiple intelligences approaches to learning highlight the work ethics and the intellectual formation of students throughout their four years of undergraduate study.

Furthermore, the HuSoCom Department is a service department that provides the general education requirements to the curricular offerings of the College. It is divided into the following sub units:

• Humanities
• Social Sciences
• Communications, that include Filipino, English, and Foreign Languages courses
• Physical Education
• National Service Training Program (NSTP)

The English Resource Center

The ERC is a special support unit of the English Language Program of FEU - East Asia College. It provides individualized tutorials, self-access to materials and equipment, and small-group instruction aimed at developing overall English proficiency.

Starting 2007-2008, the ERC has revolutionized its services to the whole academic community by offering its new programs: the Writing Proficiency, the Reading Development, and the English Enhancement programs.

• The Writing Proficiency Program

  Editing of students' academic papers is a service rendered by the ERC to assist students in the fulfillment of their requirements. This program will improve the delivery of this service since it is designed to provide closer supervision of students as they accomplish their respective papers. It is characterized by a systematic and comprehensive approach to develop writing communication skills. Furthermore, with the use of the program, students are trained to become creative and independent writers.

• The Reading Development Program

  The reading development program is a vital addition to the services offered by the ERC. Considering the importance of the reading proficiency in the academic advancement of the students, there is a need to establish a program which would assess and eventually improve their reading performance. The program also aims to provide a venue where students and Associates could spend time reading worthwhile and updated materials on a wide variety of topics.

• The English Enhancement Program

  The English Enhancement Program is one of the best features among services of the ERC. It is designed to provide the students with activities and lessons that will develop their oral and written communication skills in English. Enlistment in the program is based either on instructor’s referral or on a student’s voluntary personal choice. This assistance is open to bonafide students of FEU-East Asia College and it is offered free of any monetary obligation.

The Language Laboratory

The Language Laboratory (LL) aims to help students enrolled in English language courses enhance their communication skills in a positive, friendly, and safe environment. Through its latest hardware and software technology especially designed for the development of the students’ language faculty, the LL truly provides an avenue for students to practice and develop their oral-aural skills necessary in today’s competitive society. As a support to the English communication courses of the College, the LL also provides a unique language learning experience to the students outside the confines of the traditional classroom.
