General Information
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BS CpE) provides a broad undergraduate education to develop analytical skills and practical design knowledge that ensure long-term career flexibility.
Specifically, the program aims to train students who are adept at:
- Designing, implementing and maintaining computer networking solutions;
- Applying microprocessor and microcontroller technologies in developing hardware-based systems; and
- Synthesizing hardware and software technologies in providing integrated solutions.
Students begin with interesting and challenging core courses in circuits, electronics, digital logic, microprocessor and microcontroller systems, computer networking, and the design of digital systems. Software courses are also prominent. After completing their core courses, students can then select more advanced courses in areas such as robotics, hardware-based systems and computer networks. The program culminates with students working on a two-term design project in order to apply all of the knowledge and skills that they have acquired.
Before graduating, students in the Computer Engineering program may also complement their college coursework with a 3-month professional internship in a company to acquire valuable experience, make professional contacts, and possibly, earn an income by applying their technical knowledge.
Career Opportunities
Because of the training and background provided to them, Computer engineering graduates will be able to function competently as:
- Academic Instructor/Professor
- Data Communications Engineer
- Entrepreneur
- Hardware Designer
- Network Administrator/Manager
- Project Manager/Engineer
- Systems Manager/Engineer
