Step Up Dance Contest Shows Off

December 16, 2009

Excitement filled the air but the tension was palpable as 14 dance groups from various high schools gathered to compete in Admission and External Relations Office’s first ever Step Up Dance Contest last December 4, 2009 at the 9F Mini Auditorium, Technology Building.

Schools were given five minutes each to showcase their dancing prowess and impress the judges in their mixed tracks of choice in the Elimination Round. For the first batch, the following schools competed: St. Mary’s Academy of Caloocan, Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College (OLOPSC), Mary Immaculate Parish Special School, St. Patrick School of Quezon City, St. Therese of Rose School, Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Peacemaker International Christian Academy; while the 2nd batch rivals were: Francisco School, St. Mary’s College of Meycauayan, Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, Pasig City Science High School, PAREF Northfield School, Don A. Roces Sr. Science Technology School, and Capitol Hills School.

In the Final Round, the top five schools rendered their on-the-spot interpretation of three hottest tracks in the airwave. Students demonstrated breakdancing, krumping, tutting, and street jazz dancing styles within the two-minute period. The competition was intense and fun at the same time.

Before the awaited announcement of winners, Allan Castillo, a 3rd Year ECE student, and the Exude Dancers, from the Artist Connection, provided much applauded intermission numbers. Don A. Roces Sr. Science Technology School was declared as the Champion while OLOPSC and St. Therese School grabbed the 1st and 2nd Place awards. Winners brought home P15,000, P10,000, and P5,000 cash respectively.

Allan Castillo and Kristine Raymundo, our ECE Alumna, hosted the event.
