FEU – EAC: Sharing its vision with the marginalized communities

June 02, 2010

The Student Affairs and Community Services Office (SACSO), through the Community Extension Services (CESU) and in participation of the Academic Departments, launched its community outreach activities for 3rd Term SY0910.

Academic Departments conducted short-term courses for out-of-school youth. This included the Civil Engineering (CE) Department spearheading the Training on AutoCAD, the EEE-ECE Unit on Consumer Electronic, and the EEE-CpE Unit on PC Troubleshooting. The activities aimed to demonstrate the commitment of the Associates in sharing their expertise in Engineering and Information Technology with our adopted communities.

On the other hand, to adhere to the call of sharing our technological expertise in community outreach program, the Humanities, Social Sciences and Communication (HSC) and the Math and Physical Sciences  (MPS) Departments also took part in conducting community outreach projects. The HSC held Public Speaking Training for the Ministry of Lectors and Commentator of San Roque De Sampaloc, while the MPS led the Livelihood Training on Perfume-Making to parent-members of the Samahang Pangkabuhayan ng mga Magulang sa Corn Village.

To further complement the community outreach experience of the Associates, SACSO-CESU, in cooperation with Commission on Election-Education Department, staged the iTam Social Forum: “Auto-Boto, Facing the Challenges of the 2010 Automated Election”. Mr. Leo Lim, COMELEC Information Officer, served as the Resource Speaker. He also demonstrated the use of the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) Machine in order to orient the participants on the automated elections.

The activities would not have been successful without the initiative of the following Community Extension Advisers, namely: Ms. Gertrude Panlaqui (HSC), Engr. Lito Mauro (CE), Engr. Maribel Misola (CpE), Engr. Joshua Ancheta (ECE), and Ms. Josephine Belleza (MPS).
