i-Tamaraw, Gold-medalist for the 2010 Asian Bench Press Championship

August 23, 2010

Once again, an iTam brought pride not only to FEU-East Asia College but to the Philippines as well. In the 2010 Asian Bench Press Championship held on August 13-15, 2010 at the Robinson Otis in Paco, Manila, Jed Marc Millora, a 4th year BS Computer Engineering student, emerged and triumphed over his contenders by winning the gold medal for the 67.5 kg weight division.

During the competition, Mr. Millora was supposed to face an Indian national but was replaced by a fellow Filipino. With all his might, he was able to grab the gold and bring home the bacon. Prior to this, Jed was also the record-holder for the strongest squat with 212.5 kg in the National Open 2009.

Like most teens, his interest in power lifting started without formal training. He used to lift “anything from anywhere”, as what he said. This interest was boosted when he entered a gym and met his would-be coach, Eddie Torres, who is also the coach of the RP team. Mr. Torres saw a potential in Mr. Millora; thus, included him to their team. There, Jed received proper trainings that furthered his ability.

Despite his success in this field, he never forgets his responsibilities in the College. He trains and excels in power lifting without sacrificing his studies. According to him, proper prioritization is the key. He even aspires to have a team for FEU-East Asia College so that his sport will be known by his fellow students. He believes that the benefits that students may gain through this are valuable; these include confidence, strength and robustness.

No doubt, this is another testimony of an iTam’s exemplary performance. We take pride and honor to Mr. Millora for making a name for the College and for the country.
