PEDAGOGY SEMINAR-WORKSHOP

September 24, 2010

Effective teaching necessitates making difficult and principled choices, exercising careful judgment and honoring the complex nature of educational mission. In addition to the technical knowledge and skills teachers have to use in their daily practice, they must also be aware of the ethical dimensions of their profession. In this light, the primary mission is to foster the development of skills, dispositions and understanding while acknowledging thoughtfully and responsibly a wide range of human needs and conditions. Thus, teachers must master a repertoire of instructional methods and strategies, yet, remain critical and reflective about their practice.

Based on the latest developments in pedagogy, teaching has become more than an activity that conserves valued knowledge and skills by transmitting them to succeeding generations. Therefore, teachers also have the responsibility to challenge existing structures, practices and definitions of knowledge; to invent and test new approaches; and where necessary, to pursue organizational change in a constant attempt to improve the College.

For that reason, the Human Resources Office, in coordination with the Academic Community, held the Pedagogy Seminar-Workshop on September 8, 2010 to instill among the Teaching Associates the importance of total quality in teaching and at the workplace as they go through their academic responsibilities. Emphasis was given on educational leadership and management skills and their sense of service not only to the school and the community but to the country as well. Hence, College work is not only about pursuing academic excellence. Teachers have to develop other aspects of themselves such as their social skills, spiritual nourishment and management abilities. After all, these are what they also need to develop among their own students. As a result, it is their wanting to strengthen the College by building its most important resources, the people.

The 8-hour seminar-workshop was conducted by Mr. Renato Jose Ma. V. Molano from the De La Salle University, Manila. In that whole day seminar, very interactive discussions transpired, much fun, learning and awareness were afforded each attendee. For sure, the attendees cannot wait for the second part which is coming soon!

For now, may they all continue to bring good news to everyone and strive to make a difference.
