Technology: No place for wimps!

- Scott Adams (American creator of Dilbert comic strip)

If technology is not a place for losers then a good foundation should be supplemented to those who would want to be in this field. Just as everything has its own foundation, technology also relies on its bedrock – Math and Science.

FEU-East Asia College recognizes the importance of Math and Science to the betterment of training the students. With this, the College came up with a competition designed to challenge the knowledge and skills of high school students in these areas through TechNo Wars, a digital quiz bee.

Thirty five participating schools went through three challenges: the Novice Round, the Intermediate Round and the Prodigy Round. The Novice Round is a multiple choice-type exam which consists of 100 Math and Science questions that are to be answered in thirty minutes. Twenty schools with the highest scores in the fastest time qualified for the Intermediate Round. The qualifying schools were then given 15 identification-type questions that were answered within fifteen minutes. Twelve schools qualified for the Prodigy Round.

The Prodigy Round was the revelation of the righteous Wizards. Held at the University Conference Center, this round of the competition was hosted by Lifestyle magazine show host Cheska Garcia and sportscaster Aaron Atayde. Fifteen difficult questions challenged the twelve qualifying schools. In the end, St. Jude Catholic School reigned as the Supreme Math and Science Wizards. Manila Science High School landed on the second place while Makati Science High School finished third place as they snatched the sudden death question from Caloocan City Science High School and St. Therese of Child Jesus Academy.

TechNo Wars Year 5: The Supreme Math and Science Wizards Reign was made possible by SHARP Calculators with the cooperation of Thermos and Dowell. The event will be aired on Studio 23 on February 6, 2011 at 11:00 – 12:00 noon.
