When two cultures meet: Cho Sun University students visit FEU – East Asia College

March 01, 2011

The increasing number of Korean citizens in the country, the K-pop penetration in the music industry, and the addicting Korean drama all point to the Korean sensation that is apparent in the country. This sensation has already reached the grounds of FEU – East Asia College during the 5-day visit of the 19 student representatives from Cho Sun University.

From February 17 to 23, these students experienced the College-feel in the Philippines through the immersion program of Metro Korea Language Center in partnership with FEU-EAC. As a premier Engineering institution, FEU-EAC was chosen as on orientation ground for these students who are engineering majors back in Korea. They attended regular classes in the morning, observed and participated in the different classes at the College, and gained knowledge that are relevant to their course.

In the afternoons, they attended specialized programs to familiarize them with the facilities and the culture of the College. They were able to use the library, interact with other students and join in the mentoring programs of the English and Math Resource Centers. They played board games and computer games which aimed to challenge their abilities and enhance their knowledge. They also tasted native foods like our famous “balot”, unripe mango with bagoong, salted egg and boiled ampalaya. On the fifth day, the College organized a graduation program for these students in completion of their stay. They were awarded certificates and had a feast of Filipino foods.

More than the academic exposure that the Korean students gained through their visit, they were also immersed and exposed to the Filipino culture. They felt the warmth of the FEU – East Asia College community through its hospitable accommodation. Clearly, FEU – East Asia College is not only a premier choice for education but an excellent choice for cultural immersion and exposure.
