PACSA Midyear Convention Strengthened Campus Advising and Student Leadership on iTamaraws

September 08, 2011

Held on July 28-30, 2011 at the country’s no. 1 tourist destination – Boracay – the 2011 PACSA Midyear Convention once again gathered outstanding student leaders and campus advisers all over the country. Representing FEU – East Asia College for the convention were SADU Coordinator Marlon Maglipas and SCC Officers Jelly Kates Ayeras, Rodsan Rivera and Joanna Azarcon.

Carrying the theme “Strengthening Campus Advising and Student Leadership Amidst Global Challenges”, this year’s convention was filled with awe-inspiring speakers. Filipino sociologist Dr. Clarence Batan from the University of Santo Tomas and 2009 CNN Hero Efren Peñaflorida both enlightened the audience as they inculcated the participants with the value of integrity and enhanced communication skills as molders of informed public opinion. The King of Talk, Mr. Boy Abunda, on the other hand, shared his views on winning. Despite the people’s notion of quitting as losing, he argued that sometimes it is not harmful to quit on the things in front of us for success really comes from pursuing the things that we really want and excel at.

On the second day, the event was even made special by a program that showcased the culture of each region in the Philippines. Using their flairs and grace in dancing, the Visayas and Mindanao group performed a cultural dance that awed the other participants while the Luzon group made their own rendition of ‘Isang Lahi’. Finally, the NCR group staged a combination of skit and dance that displayed the culture and excellence of the capital region of the Philippines.
