January 13, 2012

The Philippine International Friendship Organization (PIFO) held its 8th National Conference and Interactive Forum on November 30 to December 2, 2011 in Baguio City. The conference, which was co-organized by University of Baguio, University of Cordilleras, and St. Louis University, carried the theme "Engaging Students from Different Cultures: Nosebleed or Blessing?".

Three officers of FEU – East Asia College International Students Association namely Oldouz Ahmarinejad, Soroosh Kia (both Iranian), Sylvia Ambang (Papuan), and Guidance Unit Coordinator Marietta A. Mejia attended the three-day conference.

Aside from several plenary discussions conducted, one of the highlights of the convention was its 42nd Search for the Three Outstanding International Students of the Philippines. Twelve member schools sent to the PIFO search their respective nominees who underwent various assessment stages that include panel interview, written examination, and extemporaneous speaking.

The annual search aimed to identify leadership potentials and capabilities and encourage social consciousness among foreign students; promote international friendship and understanding; motivate them to achieve academic excellence, share leadership skills and social involvement experiences, and most importantly, nurture friendship, understanding, and peace.

PIFO is a private, non-profit organization created to help International students adjust in the Philippines. It aims to promote fellowship among Filipinos and international students and to develop international student programs in educational institutions.
